THE HISTORY AND USE OF GEMSTONES

Disclaimer:  Use of gemstones for healing should not replace, but should complement the advice of a doctor.

The use of gems as crystals, concentrating, refracting and absorbing light, is an ancient practice, which has varied yet specific results.  It is important to place meaningful significance in a gem crystal being worn or hung in your home.  Sylvia Browne's books recommend a type of ritual on the gemstone by soaking it in water and plain salt.  The combination of your faith and conditioning of the gems provide the best results.

Gems have been used for healing from the earliest historical records include amethyst, rock crystal, amber, garnet, jade, jasper, coral, lapis lazuli, pearl, serpentine, emerald, and turquoise. Gems have always had a spiritual aura, which is why they were worn as amulets and talismans.  Gemstones can also be made into amulets that are worn as protection on a neck chain, the arm or the ear. Talisman are not worn on the body, but can be kept in front of the house, in the apartment, or taken along in the car. Use them to guarantee health, to bring good luck and to be helpful in other ways.  Many gemstones, especially the larger ones such as agate, minerals, druses and geodes can be used as talismans.

Each gemstone type has a vibrational energy which affects a person’s spirit or energy field,  subconscience, internal meridian energy channels, and their aura through the chakras.  Using the appropriate crystal will allow a person to “tune” to an energy system and rebalance their energies.  The energy field produced by a gemstone or crystal is based on color, chemical composition, atomic structure and physical form.  The crystals can move, absorb, focus, direct and diffuse energy within the body, and can improve visionary powers.  They can be used for depression, healing, relaxation, enhancing dreams and aiding the body’s natural immune system.

Crystal healers say that all gemstones and even organisms from organic materials have energetic powers stemming from Mother Earth during the formation of the stones, or from the sun’s warming rays. Healing stones should be placed in the sun from time to time, or expose them to moonlight, so they can replenish the energy that has been used.  A recommended method is to place the stones on your patio or window sill two nights before a full moon.  You can also bury the gemstone overnight in the ground and then rinse for several minutes.  Before treating a stone, it is recommended that you discharge the energy in the stone by rinsing it with cold water or burying it for several days.  This is recommended if the gemstone is newly bought, a gift, or an inherited stone. Once cleansed of any resonance, you can program the crystal for a particular use. This is done by holding the stone in your hand and praying for the desired properties, meditating on it and projecting thoughts to it.  The crystal will absorb positive energy as well as your telepathic thoughts and will.  Once programmed, the crystal will act as an amplifier of your psychic and psychological powers.

Synthetic stones cannot be used as healing stones.  Only genuine gemstones grown in nature in the course of millions of years have stored the powers of nature. The artifically produced gemstones lack the soul that has mastery over the spirit.    An example would be the pendulum; the quartz or other gemstone is cut as symmetrically as possible with a pointed tip. The pointed tip increases ability to diagnose sicknesses of the body.  Baroque or drum stones rounded on all sides, such as the ones held in the hand or carried in a pocket, can also be just as helpful as a crystal worn around the neck.

The most common practices of mineral healing support using the gemstones listed below for the affliction noted.  Place the gemstone at the nearest chakra.  Some natural healers grind the mineral(s) and make a poultice or mix with water.  The poultice should be immersed in hot water and then applied to the nearest chakra.  Another method is to place the gemstone in water overnight to soak, and drink the energized water with or without added fruit juice.  Some people even immerse large gemstones into their bathwater.
